When protesters began gathering in Egypt’s Tahrir Square in January of 2011, demanding that Hosni Mubarak step down, no one could have predicted the chain reaction throughout the Middle East. Of course, the implications were significant, the citizens of this North African country, and long time United States ally, had seen the success in Tunisia, and grown tired of conditions brought on by the thirty year rule of President Mubarak. One thing became clear, Mubarak must step down. (more…)

The Israel and Palestine Conflict: Since the United Nations voted in 1947 to partition Palestine and create the Jewish state of Israel, there have been arguments about the division of land. Outbreaks of violence around the issue have recently been centered in the area known as the Gaza strip, which is surrounded by Israel. Israel is opposed to the political control of Hamas in Gaza, and Hamas refuses to recognize Israel as a legitimate nation. (more…)
