On November 28, 2011, the presidential election of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was being held. The two major presidential candidates were the incumbent Joseph Kabila and Etienne Tshisekedi, but there were nine other contenders. The election was only the second time citizens of the country were able to vote for a president. (more…)

The International Court of Justice is the main judicial arm of the United Nations and is headquartered inside Peace Palace at The Hague in the Netherlands. The court was established by a UN Charter in 1945 to settle legal disputes brought before it by states of the world. In addition to ruling on legal disputes, the Court offers advisory opinions on legal matters submitted by authorized organizations and agencies as well as the UN General Assembly. (more…)

Climate change is a much discussed issue since years. With the Kyoto Protocol ending in 2012, the world needs a follow-up agreement. It entered into force on 16 February 2005 and is aimed at fighting global warming. The Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement linked to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). (more…)
